Undergrads for Opera at UCSD

Mariya is proud to have served as the founding President and Artistic Director of a student organization at UC San Diego dedicated to the performance and enjoyment of the classical vocal repertoire. Projects in the 2011-2012 season included a recital series featuring undergraduate voice students performing various art songs and arias, and Così(abridged), an hour-long self-abridged version of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, which Mariya directed, designed, and performed.

The mission statement of the organization is as follows:  The purpose of Undergrads for Opera at UCSD is to provide undergraduate classical vocalists with the opportunity to gain experience planning, organizing, and performing in events that are not directly dependent on the UCSD Music Department. Performances include, but are not limited to, solo and joint recitals, staged and non-staged opera scenes and one-act operas, and collaborations with instrumentalists. These performances will be free to the public, and aimed primarily at UCSD students. Through the process of creating professional-level performances from scratch, participants gain valuable experience and develop a sense of community.

The Treble Singers at UCSD

Mariya is happy to have been a founding member of the Treble Singers, an all-female a capella vocal ensemble at UCSD, which gave her the opportunity to hone her conducting and arranging skills, and perform for numerous events at UCSD and in the San Diego community.
